Born in Texas and raised in the small Texas town of Wharton, I’ve been interested in art as long as I can remember - as a child filling many sketchbooks, doodling on anything at hand, as an adult stopping on the side of the road on the spur of the moment to take photographs that capture the beauty of nature, and later using some of them for reference.  After marriage in 1972, taking time to raise a family, and putting my art on hiatus for years, I was beginning to feel artistically repressed.  I found a new

passion in painting in May of 2013 when a coworker and a wonderful artist, Burlon Parsons, suggested I come and join the Parson’s Art Group.  Within his group I met other artists who shared a desire to spread their artistic wings.  Burlon reignited my love of art and introduced me to various mediums and I learned to express myself in paint.   After his untimely death,  I and other of his students joined the Painted Poodle art studio of Penny Medders and  Jessie Lofland. Currently I am a member of The El Campo Art Association painting under instructor Mae Borak and through the association have had the wonderful opportunity to attend 3-day oil painting workshops with Michael Windberg.   I am learning new techniques thru the EC Art Assn – like colored pencils and acrylic pours.  I have painted in watercolor, acrylic, water miscible oil and traditional oil paints.  My subjects cover a wide range but I favor birds and landscapes, and am currently pursuing a new passion for portraits.   My style leans toward the dramatic with high contrast, and using a vivid palette.  I would encourage anyone with a yearning for creative expression to try out the El Campo Art Association.   It is a great place to learn, to meet other wonderful artists and to participate in art shows.
