You Can Do it!
Mae Borak
I was born in Bay City in 1946. I joined the Art league (now the El Campo Art Association) in 1976. Since then I have been very involved with all aspects of the group from art shows and fund raisers to teaching and serving on the board.
My artistic journey began in 1975 when my best friend Dorothy Merta asked me to take some art classes. I did not even draw but she assured me that she would help me learn. Over the years I have had 10 teachers, the latest being Michael Windberg of Haletsville. My art work has improved with time and now I even teach oil painting to children and adults. I have dabbled in many mediums like watercolor, guache’, pencil and even stained glass. However, I have always returned to my first love, oil painting. I like to challenge myself so if it looks hard, I go for it and try to learn something new everyday.
Art, for me, is relaxing and when I start painting the rest of the world just goes away. I pour my whole soul into my paintings. It is a wonderful and fulfilling hobby. Never say you can’t do something because if you want something bad enough you can achieve it. Take the challenge and shoot for the stars... You CAN DO IT!! No matter your age you should believe in yourself and just go for it.
